A good example to wives of present day Filipino leaders is Adriana Sangalang Hilario. The wife of Governor Tiburcio Hilario, the Architect of the Philippine Revolution in Pampanga, she wholeheartedly embraced her husband’s mission to free Pampanga from its colonial masters.
Adriana Sangalang Hilario was born on September 8, 1868 in manila. Adriana was not given a formal education. Through her own iniatiative, however, she learned to read and write by using a pointed bamboo stick, writing on a banana leaf. Reading became her greatest passion.
Adriana Sangalang Hilario became the first lady of the province. She helped collect voluntary contributions, feed soldiers, nursed the sick and the wounded, led the distribution of provisions for families of the wounded and dead soldiers and cooperated with Red Cross Officials under Praxedes Fajardo in their own work.
She was forever grateful to God for her good fortune of marrying an exceptional model of a man . in memory of Don Tiburcio she wore black until she died on December 12, 1946.
