City Government Recognizes ‘mga Bayani Ng Kalikasan’ [ Friday, 29th of January 2021 | 1 month ago ]

Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago recognizes some barangays and individuals for their
collective efforts on waste segregation, calling them ‘mga bayani ng
kalikasan.”
This,
after the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) conducted 2020 Awarding
of Best Barangay Practices in Solid Waste Management on Thursday at
Amphitheatre, Heroes Hall.
Santiago commended
the barangays for their fervent adherence to Republic Act 9003 or the
Ecological Solid Waste Management (ESWM) Act of 2000.
“Kayo
ang bayani ng kalikasan. Congratulations sa inyo at sa lahat ng cabalen na
sumunod at isinasabuhay ang batas na ito,” the mayor said.
Since
2012, the activity became an annual program of CENRO in partnership with Mother
Earth Foundation which aims to ensure
the proper segregation, collection, transport, storage, treatment, and disposal
of solid waste through household and barangay participation.
Maria
Regina Rodriguez, Officer in Charge of the City ENRO, thanked all the
stakeholders and participating barangays whose involvement is very important in
sustaining their efforts on environmental protection.
For this year’s search for Model Barangays on
ESWM, Barangay Quebiawan was hailed for having the Best Material Recovery
Facility (MRF) for Cluster 1, while Barangay San Juan was cited for having the
Best MRF-Cluster 2.
The Most Sustainable Solid Waste Management
Program award was given to Barangay Maimpis for Cluster 1 and Barangay Sta.
Teresita for Cluster 2.
For the Best Barangay-Cluster 1, Barangay
Maimpis was hailed as Top 1, followed by Malpitic and San Isidro. For the Best
Barangay Cluster 2, Sta. Teresita ranked first, followed by Alasas, and Lara.
Special awards were also given to Cristina
Villanueva, Barangay Sta. Teresita as the Best Secretary Hall of Famer; Oscar
D. Mercado of Barangay Saguin as the Best Kagawad; and, Brgy. Alasas as the
Best Barangay Solid Waste Management Committee.
Other winners in various categories were:
Highest Household Compliance Rate — Brgy. Lara
Best Garbage Collection System — Brgy. Lara
Highest Waste Diversion Rate — Brgy. Saguin
Cleanest Barangay — Brgy. Sta. Telabastagan
Best ESWM Enforcement Program — Brgy. Pandaras
Best Chairman- Anna Liza Gonzales of Barangay
Teresita
Special citations were also given to Pilar
Village, San Isidro, Ramar Village San Agustin, Villa Lourdes, Alasas as Model
Homeowners Association.
Certificates of Appreciation were awarded to
Barangay Evaluators; Juluizar Pasion, Jay Aguilar, Ryan Rivera, Joenard David,
Rizalino Silva, Armen Villanueva.
