The city government here in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development–Region 3 recently awarded capital assistance amounting to Php 205,000 to women organizations under the sustainable livelihood program of Mayor Edwin Santiago.

The said organizations are composed of Montesmar Triangulo Bulaklak Group and San Jose Working Moms Association, which both received P75,000 and Kababaihang Nagkakaisa para sa Maunlad na Pamilya faction which receive P55,000.

With this, their members who are all plain housewives, now have the opportunity to earn through small-scale business which can be included as one of their main sources of living.

The capital assistance received by each house-hold beneficiary ranges from P3,000 to P5,000 depending on the type of business they intend to put up like e-load services, sari-sari vending, rice retailing, uling selling, manicure and pedicure services, among others.
In an interview, Mayor Santiago said that “employment programs” are his number one priority under “Sapat na Pangkabuhayan sa mga Fernandino Tungo sa Maunlad na Pamumuhay."

“Ginagawa natin ito para maging ‘inclusive’ ang kaunlaran dito sa San Fernando, dapat lahat ng mamamayan ay may disenteng hanap buhay” he added.

He emphasized that this effort aims to further assist underprivileged families in uplifting their well-being for them to reach self-sufficiency.
Before receiving the assistance, the beneficiaries underwent series of seminars in values transformation, skills trainings, financial and time management last month.

“The success of a family still depends on the capacity of parents to perform their responsibilities to their children” said Santiago noting that “his job is to ensure the welfare of its constituents.”
