CSF Reopens Organic Trading Post [ Wednesday, 25th of September 2019 | 3 weeks ago ]
After a short break from its operations, the Organic Trading Post (OTP) of the City Government of San Fernando at the New Public Market in Barangay Del Pilar reopened on September 24, 2019.
The reopening of the site was held through a ribbon-cutting ceremony, led by Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago and City Agriculturist Cristina Sangumay, together with Fernando Lorenzo, head of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office III AgriBusiness and Marketing Assistance Division.
According to Sangumay, the project was revived to give further opportunities for the city’s organic farmers to promote their produce. “Nagsumikap tayo na muling buhayin yung operation ng Organic Trading Post pagkatapos niyang magpahinga para mas maipakilala at maibahagi pa sa mga Fernandino ang organic products sa ating siyudad,” she said.
Lorenzo, on the other hand, cited some of the positive benefits of organic farming in the community and lauded the city government for reopening the site.
“Organic Farming will do good in many ways—sa ating mga lupa, sa kapaligiran, at sa kalusugan ng tao. Kaya naman natutuwa tayo at binabati natin ang City Government of San Fernando, sa pangunguna ni Mayor Edwin Santiago, na naibalik muli ang OTP,” remarked Lorenzo.
The OTP will be open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 5 a.m. until 12 noon.
Fernandinos and market-goers from nearby towns may avail of different products from the site, including vegetables and fruits, alongside other local products such as chili sauce, cane vinegar, and mushroom chips.
Santiago, for his part, extended his gratitude to the members of Fernandino Organic Farmers’ Association for the support they have been giving to the city in promoting organic farming.
“Natutuwa tayo na sa kabila ng pag-usbong ng mga makabagong paraan ng pagtatanim, nandiyan pa rin ang ating asosasyon upang tulungan tayo na palakasin pa ang organic farming sa siyudad,” he said.
The city mayor also supported Lorenzo’s statement, saying that organic farming, in terms of production and consumption, is recognized as a safer form of farming.
The city’s OTP was launched in June 2015, making it the first of its kind in Pampanga.
