A total of 150 fruit-bearing trees were planted along the streets of Brgy. Lara in an aim to promote environmental preservation and protection. As the participants agreed, the planted trees will be monitored by the Pederasyon ng mga Kababaihang Fernandino through the supervision of Gender and Development Focal Person Amy Catacutan. Aside from this, the Women’s Week celebration will also culminate through an Essay Writing Contest and Photography Contest at City College of San Fernando; and, the Womentrepreneurship Fair which will be staged at Vista Mall, Pampanga. The City Government of San Fernando, headed by Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago, is steadfast in its commitment to achieve a smart, livable and green city as it conducts several environment-related activities in the capital city. Santiago believes that community involvement is one of the key factors to thoroughly attain the city government’s agenda “Pagkalinga sa Kalikasan at Kapaligiran, Kaligtasan ng Buhay ay Makakamtan.” It can be recalled that the city’s actions in combating plastic pollution and healthy environment were recognized by various institutions, one of which is the recent “Refill Champions” award conferred by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) Region 3. This is just a manifestation that the city government is true to its mandate.
