Santiago Leads Tribute To Fernandino Heroine [ Tuesday, 10th of September 2019 | 2 months ago ]

Delivered with complete pride, this was the highlight of Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago’s remarks as he led the tribute to Nicolasa Dayrit-Panlilio on September 10, 2019 at Heroes Hall, in time for the late Fernandino heroine’s 145th birth anniversary. Santiago was pertaining to the influential role of the heroine, who safeguarded and protected the Filipino revolutionaries during the Spanish occupation in the country, through her expertise in health care, and, her role in bringing peace amidst the violent confrontation between Gen. Antonio Luna and Gen. Tomas Mascardo in 1899. The tribute was staged through a wreath-laying ceremony on Panlilio’s monument at Heroes Park, followed by the launching of the second edition book on her life entitled, “Nicolasa Dayrit-Panlilio: Ing Bayaning Fernandino.” The book on the life and contributions of Panlilio, authored by educator Nancy Tolentino through the use of Kapampangan language with English translation, was published through the joint efforts of the CSF-LGU officials and personnel, descendants of the heroine, and women’s groups. Carmelo Panlilio said they hope for Nicolasa to be recognized by all generations of Fernandinos and Kapampangans. Panlilio spearheaded the book launch alongside Santiago, Vinni Panlilio-Luciano, and Dr. Leticia Yap, Chairman of the Local Council of Women. “Malaki ang pasasalamat natin sa lokal na gobyerno ng San Fernando sa taun-taong pagkilala sa aming bayani. Ang dalangin lang namin, sana, iyong henerasyon ng Fernandino at Kapampangan noon, ngayon, at yung darating pa, patuloy silang ma-impluwensyahan ng kabayanihan ni Nicolasa,” said the heroine’s grandson. Apart from this activity, the city also hosted on September 9 the “Search for the Best Story Tellers on Nicolasa Dayrit-Panlilio Life and Struggles” at Heroes Hall, participated by different public schools in the city. September 10 is likewise declared as Women’s Day in CSF to recognize unnamed Fernandino and Kapampangan women who made great contributions while other week-long activities were also slated for the city’s observance of Women’s Week.
