CSF Involves Youth In Environmental Protection [ Tuesday, 30th of July 2019 | 3 weeks ago ]

The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), in partnership with Mother Earth Foundation (MEF) and Zero Waste Youth Pilipinas, held over the weekend the Environmental Youth Camp of several junior high school Youth for Environment in Schools Organizations (YES-O) officers at Heroes Hall

This annual activity, usually staged for three days, seeks to educate the Fernandino youth leaders about the different environmental issues and concerns; and, approaches to fight them.

Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago paid the participants a visit during the first day of the camp on July 5, reminding them that “the city government wants to work closely with the youth for environmental protection.”

“Environment is one of our top agendas here in the City of San Fernando. Sino ba ang gusto nating katuwang sa ating trabaho na ingatan ang kalikasan? Kayong mga kabataan, mga mag-aaral. We are hosting this camp para maging aware kayo sa mga problema natin sa kalikasan at malaman ninyo ang mga paraan para malabanan ito,” Santiago said.

Some of the highlights during this three-day camp were sessions on environmental leadership, lectures on ecological solid waste (ESW) and zero waste management, and presentation of CENRO’s programs.

The participants were also able to undergo several team building activities such as water olympics, and "amazing race.” The new YES-O Network officers were also presented.

Maria Regina Rodriguez, CENR Officer, speaking before the participants, shared that the city is glad to be working with the schools and parents for four years now for the youth camp.

“This is our fourth year to do the Environmental Youth Camp. Natutuwa tayo sa patuloy na suporta ng inyong mga eskwelahan at mga magulang sa ating mga programa patungkol sa pangangalaga ng kalikasan. Our main purpose here is hindi lang para mag-enjoy, para din may matutunan kayo,” she said.

Apart from this, the CENRO also extended their gratitude to their partners, MEF and Zero Waste Youth Pilipinas, for their participation. These two organizations have been with the city in its different environmental programs, led by ESW and zero waste management.

As part of the culminating activity, the participants received their certificates during the graduation ceremony on July 7.
