Fire, Rescue Olympics Staged In CSF [ Wednesday, 17th of April 2019 | 4 months ago ]

To further strengthen and promote community disaster preparedness, the City Government of San Fernando staged its first-ever “Joint Fire and Rescue Olympics” on March 30, 2019 at the Bren Z. Guiao Sports Complex.

The activity, made possible through the efforts of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), was participated by 14 barangays of the capital city.

The competition was composed of four stations: bucket relay, flammable liquid extinguishment, bandaging relay, and lifting & moving.

Each participating barangay also had a representative for the Ms. Joint Fire and Rescue Ambassadress 2019.

During his opening remarks, CDRRM Officer Raymond Del Rosario lauded the participants on their hard work and perseverance in preparing for this competition.

He also encouraged them to practice safety prevention measures to eradicate or lessen incident cases as they are the first responders in the community.

“I hope, hindi dito nagtatapos ang ating pagsulong sa mga tamang dapat gawin kapag may sakuna o kalamidad,” said Del Rosario.

Meanwhile, City Fire Marshal Chief Inspector Roderick Marquez expressed his gratitude to the CDRRMO for letting them to be part of this significant program.

Thru this, Marquez believes that Fernandinos are now ready for whatever tragedies and natural calamities.

“Sana naisapuso po natin yung mga natutunan po natin sa activity na ito para sakali mang magkaroon ng hindi inaasahang pangyayari, ay handa tayong lahat at alam natin ang ating gagawin,” said Marquez.

The first-ever Joint Fire and Rescue Olympics was launched last February 16, 2019 as part of the celebration of this year’s cityhood anniversary or Kaganapan.

It aimed to achieve the city government’s agenda “Kapayapaan at Kaayusan ay Makakamtan, sa Nagkakaisa at Disiplinadong Mamamayan.”

The winners for the special awards were: Best in Bucket Relay—Brgy. Juliana; Best in Flammable Liquid Extinguishment—Brgy. Saguin; Best in Bandaging Relay—Brgy. Sindalan; and Best in Lifting and Moving Relay—Brgy. Sta Teresita.

Meanwhile, Brgy. Sindalan was hailed as the first-ever champion of the Olympics, followed by Brgy Juliana (1st runner up) and Brgy. Sta. Teresita (2nd runner up).
