Responsible Pet Ownership Advocated Through “Pet Mo, Show Mo” [ Wednesday, 13th of March 2019 | 1 week ago ]
Pet owners and enthusiasts from this capital city were one with the city government’s responsible pet ownership campaign, taking their pets to the “Pet Mo, Show Mo” on February 9, 2019 at Heroes Hall grounds.
According to City Agriculturist Cristina Sangumay, who heads the City Agriculture and Veterinary Office (CAVO), the activity is in support to the Animal Welfare Act, which states that pets, too, have the rights to be provided with a healthy environment and proper nourishment.
She also shared that this has evolved since its launch in 2012 to cater more classes of pets.
“The activity was originally ‘Walk with my pet,’ kung saan dogs lang yung sumasali. Ginawa natin siyang ‘Pet Mo, Show Mo’ to accommodate also yung ibang pets na nasa bahay,” Sangumay explained.
Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago had an encounter with the participating pets composed of dogs of various breeds, a cat, chicken, fish, frog, python, and an iguana.
“Ako rin ay isang pet owner at pet lover. Our pets are there to give us protection and happiness so, in return, this is what we give to them, in compliance din sa ating batas. We organize this activity para makapagset tayo ng standards in terms of responsible pet ownership,” said Santiago.
This year’s competition had four categories, namely: Glamour and Style, Cool and Dandy, Tough and Glory, and Intergalactic.
The pets were adjudged based on their general appearance, grooming, behavior, cleverness, and special talents.
Bernie Blim of the Canine Lovers Association of Pampanga, meanwhile, extended his gratitude on behalf of other pet owners.
“This is a great move ng city government because they are helping us na ilayo yung mga alaga namin from stress. And we are also able to help them showcase their talents,” Blim said.
