PH’s “Father Of Modern Architecture” Gets Exhibit By CSF [ Friday, 31st of August 2018 | 6 months ago ]

Fernando Hizon Ocampo, the Philippines’ “Father of Modern Architecture” was honored by the Local Government of San Fernando, through an exhibit, featuring his life and works.

The late Ocampo, a renowned architect who was born in the city, designed several buildings not only in Pampanga, but in different parts of the country.

Some of his notable works were the Arguelles, Paterno, and Cu-Unjieng buildings in Manila, Ayala Bridge in Pasig City, University Theatre in Taft Avenue, and Central Seminary of the University of Sto. Tomas. He also undertook the restorations of the war-damaged Manila Metropolitan Cathedral in the mid-1950s.

In the city, his brainchild was the restoration of the Metropolitan Cathedral of San Fernando which was destroyed by fire in 1939, and the designs of Arzobispado de Pampanga in Brgy. San Jose and Assumpta Building in Brgy. Sto. Rosario.

Addressing before the city officials, some employees of the city hall, and members of several organizations of architects in the province, the family members of Ocampo expressed gratitude for hosting an exhibit for the late architect.

On behalf of the whole family, I am thankful to the local government of San Fernando for considering my grandfather as an ‘Arkitekto ning Balen, Sagisag ning Kultura’. This will inspire many young Fernandinos to appreciate and do art,” said Inna Ocampo-Eusebio, granddaughter of FHO.

Eusebio added that “they are wholeheartedly accepting the tribute given to their grandfather.”

According to City Tourism Office, this activity is in line with the Twin Celebration of 264th founding anniversary of San Fernando and the 114th anniversary of the provincial capitol from Bacolor to CSF.
