Unity In Diversity: CSF LGBT June Pride Month 2018 Kicks Off [ Tuesday, 5th of June 2018 | 2 weeks ago ]
The Local Government of San Fernando, headed by Mayor Edwin ‘EdSa’ Santiago, continues to promote gender equality and social inclusiveness as the city officially unveiled the calendar of activities for this year’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender or LGBT June Pride Month in June 4 at the City Hall.
This will be the second time the city, through its Gender and Development and citywide LGBT organization, SIWALA (voice), will stage the said celebration following its launch during the previous year.
During a press conference, Santiago equated the members of the LGBT community to a rainbow, which also stands as the community’s symbol.
“Ang LGBT community ay marapat lang na ihalintulad sa isang bahaghari. Katulad ng isang bahaghari, taglay ng mga miyembro nito ang iba’t-ibang kulay ngunit ang kanilang layunin sa mundo ay iisa lamang: ang magbigay ng saya sa mga tao,” he said.
Santiago also urged Fernandinos to give respect, recognition, and opportunities to the members of the LGBT that heterosexuals get.
Activities for the 2018 June Pride Month with the theme, “Magkakaiba, Nagkakaisa”, include a Mardi Gras-inspired LGBT Rainbow Pride March on June 8 and a two-week Event Management Training (EMT) NC II on June 11-28.
Free pampering services will be given to male CSF-LGU employees during the Tribute to Male Employees and Handog ng LGBT sa mga Fernandino: Libreng Pagpapapogi on June 19 while, a Seminar Orientation on Discrimination Amongst LGBT in the Community and Learning Institutions will happen on June 23.
The pride month will culminate on June 29, through a Cultural Night and Graduation Rites of EMT students.
