Jose Abad Santos Film, Book Launched In CSF [ Friday, 4th of May 2018 | 9 months ago ]

In celebration of the National Heritage Month this May, the City Government of San Fernando held the premiere of the film entitled 'Honor: The Legacy of Jose Abad Santos' at SM City Pampanga on May 4.

The film is a production of Philippine World II Memorial Foundation, a non-stock, non-profit organization which aims to educate the Filipino people on the nation's World War II history. It is directed by Bani Lagroño, one of the youngest directors in the Philippines and an advocate of World War II history; and is produced in partnership with Sypron-AV Manila which has been creating award-winning documentary films on World War II since 2002. "It's an honor to be showing it here in his hometown. This isn't an ordinary documentary, there are some re-enactments mixed into the narrative of the film," Lagroño said during the program. The film also comes with a book authored by Desiree Ann Cua - Benipayo, Abad Santos' descendant who is a fervent advocate, adventurous researcher, avid student, and an animated teacher on topics she is passionate about. "There was only one book about Jose Abad Santos which was published in 1967 and is now out of the market so I decided to write my own because history has to be told. Aside from Abad Santos' heroic death, this book also shows his human side including his favorite foods and what was he like as a son and as a father," she added. Also highlight of the program was the meet and greet with the cast led by Ricardo Cepeda who portrayed Abad Santos. For his part, Mayor Edwin "EdSa" Santiago said the activity is also held in commemoration of the 76th death anniversary of Chief Justice Jose Abad Santos who is a native of San Fernando. Santiago also lauded the people behind the inspiring film for coming up with a story of Jose Abad Santos' bravery and loyalty to the Philippines by refusing to cooperate with the Japanese during their occupation. "Thankfully, we have brilliant minds in the present who can give us a glimpse of what has happened back in the old times, back when our beloved hero struggled for the country. This will help us, especially the youth, fully understand what the act of heroism and patriotism truly is," he added. Also present during the premiere were Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin, Councilor Harvey Quiwa and Pyestang Fernandino 2018 Chairperson Robbie Hizon.
