CSF Culminates 'Kabalikat Sa Kabuhayan' Training Program [ Thursday, 26th of April 2018 | 9 months ago ]

The "Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan (KSK)" Rural Farmers' Training Program in the City of San Fernando culminated on April 24-25 with a Harvest Festival and Graduation Ceremony.

A total of 84 farmers have received their certificates for having completed the 12-week training on innovative farming techniques, cost and return analysis and sustainability plan which was conducted at Hansel farm, Brgy. Maimpis. The farmers are from eight different barangays of this city, town of Bacolor, Cities of Angeles and Taguig and province of Bulacan. Five of them are employees of the City Agriculture and Veterinary Office of San Fernando. City Agriculturist Cristina Sangumay said the training was launched on January 22 this year and stressed that farmers are already the 156th batch of beneficiaries under the said program. Meanwhile, the farmers were able to gather a variety of fruits and vegetables such as honeydew, melon, watermelon, eggplant, tomato and cucumber during the harvest festival. Some of these agricultural products were then used as ingredients in their cook-off challenge. In his speech, Mayor Edwin "EdSa" Santiago extended his warmest congratulations to the farmers as the season to reap the fruits of their labor finally come. He also encouraged them to practice the planting methods they've learned to improve their production of high yielding fruits and vegetables thus contribute to the city's food security. "Isa sa mga patok ngayon ay ang entrepreneurship at ito ay nagsimula sa inyong mga magsasaka. Sa pamamagitan ng programang ito ay tutulungan din naming kayong magkaroon ng mas magandang kabuhayan sa pagtatanim," he added. KSK is a project of SM Foundation, Inc. (SMFI), in cooperation with the Harbest Agribusiness Corporation, Department of Agriculture, Department of Social Welfare and Development and the City Government of San Fernando that aims to empower farmers through the season-long training on improved and doable agricultural technology.
