TESDA Head Commends EdSa For Employment Thrusts [ Monday, 14th of April 2014 | 3 years ago ]

CSFP - Mayor Edwin D. Santiago recently received kudos from Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Director General Secretary Joel Villanueva for his full support to the technical-vocational (tech-voc) sector.

The commendation was given during the opening ceremony of the 2014 Philippine National Skills Competition held April 7 at the King’s Royale Hotel and Resort this city.

“I want to commend Mayor EdSa’s governance efforts in strengthening and upholding TESDA especially the tech-voc sector. And the good thing about this competition is they’re not competing with their competitors. They’re competing with standards,” said the TESDA head. “Tatak TESDA, tatak world-class,” he added.

Villanueva also cited the country’s preparation for the 2014 ASEAN Skills Competition to be held this October in Vietnam.

“Whoever wins in the national competition will be our country’s representative to the ASEAN competition and we expect more medals this year,” he announced.

“For great partnership with the industry, President Noynoy Aquino doubled our funds for the training for work scholarship program so that there’s no reason for Filipinos to be unemployed,” Villanueva added.

As Mayor EdSa welcomed the delegates and other participants, he highlighted the foremost item on his governance agenda which is employment for all Fernandinos.

“In behalf of the City of San Fernando, we are privileged to host this year’s five competition areas in Region III. I am one proud city mayor to be given the opportunity to witness the display of Fernandino talents and skills,” he added.

Around 80 delegates from different regions of the Philippines will be competing in the areas of Beauty Therapy, Cooking, Fashion Technology, Hairdressing and Restaurant Services on April 8, 9 and 10.

“Region III is the defending over-all champion and we would like to keep it that way so as to provide the career path destined for every Fernandino and Kapampangan,” said Mayor EdSa as he concluded his speech.

Also present at the opening ceremony were regional heads of other agencies from all over the country.

The awarding ceremony will take place on April 11 at Tandang Sora Hall, TESDA Women’s Center.
