CSF Joins Int'l Zero Waste Cities Conference [ Monday, 12th of March 2018 | 9 months ago ]

The City of San Fernando was among the ten chosen cities, across the globe, that presented its environmental policies during the recently held International Zero Waste Cities Conference in Bandung, Indonesia after being regarded as one of the Best Zero Waste Models in the Asia Pacific Region.

Mayor Edwin "EdSa" Santiago said that the local government was represented by Councilor BJ Lagman who served as one of the speakers alongside with delegates from San Francisco, California, France, and India. "Lagman shared San Fernando's waste woes and effective solutions in adherence to the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act or Republic Act 9003 and our implementation of the Plastic-Free Ordinance which he authored," Santiago added. The city mayor furthered that in January 2017, a group of officials and environmental organizations from the city government of Cimahi, Bandung, Indonesia visited San Fernando for a benchmarking activity and observation of the implementation of its environmental policies such as the operation of the Materials Recovery Facility in barangays, and the enactment of the Plastic-Free Ordinance. Since then, Cimahi adopted similar programs to solve their problems on plastic waste with now three ‘kelurahan' or barangays serving as their pilot implementers of waste segregation at source, sorting in MRFs, doing organic compost, and utilizing biodigester. Meanwhile, Mayor EdSa received a token of appreciation from Cimahi City Mayor Ajay Priatna in recognition of San Fernando's contributions to the successful implementation of sustainable environmental policies in their city.
