Fernandinos Urged To Be Fire Cautious [ Tuesday, 6th of March 2018 | 4 months ago ]

In observance of Fire Prevention Month this March, Mayor Edwin "EdSa" Santiago urged Fernandinos to practice fire safety and prevention measures to help lessen fire incidents in the country.

During the Flag Raising Ceremony on Monday, the city mayor showed support to the Bureau of Fire Protection's campaign against fire as they kick off this year's celebration with the theme "Ligtas na Pilipinas ang ating hangad, pag-iingat sa sunog sa sarili ipatupad." "Napakahalaga po na alam natin yung mga pamamaraan ng pag-apula ng sunog lalo na sa mga bahay pero mas mainam pa rin kung hihingi kayo kaagad ng tulong sa mga otoridad," the city mayor said. For his part, City Fire Marshal Chief Inspector Roderick Marquez said that most number of fire incidents occur in March when the hot dry season begins. "Dito po sa buong Pilipinas, ang buwan ng Marso ay may pinakamataas na kaso ng sunog dahil sa sobrang init. Isa naman po sa mga madalas na sanhi ng sunog ay ang pag-leak ng tangke ng LPG," he added. Meanwhile, the officials also led the awarding of winners in recently held Art and Essay Writing contests organized by the BFP. For the Drawing Contest, the winners were Erica Lady Ceira De Ocera of San Fernando Elementary School (1st Place), Jannika Sabile of Nuestra Senora Del Pilar (2nd Place) and Jeremieh Herrera of Sindalan Elementary School (3rd Place). Cathlene Nunag of ICT High School won 1st Place in the Poster Making Contest. Her runners up were Jasmine Dungca of Lyndale Academy (2nd Place) and Judge Edwin Laxamana of Sindalan High School (3rd Place). For the Essay Writing Contest, the 1st Place award was given to Frances Gail Mendoza of ICT High School. While the 2nd and 3rd Place awards were given to Estrelle Marinas of Lyndale Academy and Ella Mae Lintag of San Isidro Integrated School. Other lined up activities for this Month are Fire Olympics, Berong Bumbero sa Paaralan, intensified Firetruck Visibility, Barangay Ugnayan and Kiddie Fire Marshal.
