Fernandino Students Compete In Inter School Lantern Competition [ Saturday, 9th of December 2017 | 4 months ago ]

A total of 33 public and private schools in the City of San Fernando participated in this year's Inter School Lantern Parade Competition held December 7 in line with the annual Giant Lantern Festival.

The competition was divided into three categories namely Elementary, High School and College.

All participating schools paraded their colorful lanterns, made of indigenous and recyclable materials, from High School Boulevard going to the convergence point in front of the City Hall.

In an interview, Mayor Edwin "EdSa" Santiago said that aside from preserving the city's cultural tradition, the activity is also an effective way to promote lantern making among the Fernandino youth.

"As part of keeping the light industry alive, we also want to showcase and discover the innovative ideas of the students in creating their own lanterns. The local government strives to develop the skills of today's youth because they are the one who will continue the renowned reputation for quality craftsmanship," Mayor EdSa added.

Meanwhile, the winners for the elementary category were Pandaras Integrated School (Champion), Nuestra Senora Del Pilar Integrated School (1st runner up) and San Juan South Elementary School (2nd runner up).

For the High School category, Pampanga High School was hailed as champion followed by Sindalan High School and Northville High School which landed 1st and 2nd runners up, respectively.

Calulut Integrated School (Champion), City College of San Fernando (1st runner up) and St. Nicolas College of Business and Technology (2nd runner up) emerged as victors for the college category.

Also present during the competition were City Tourism Officer Ching Pangilinan, GLF 2017 Chairperson Gil Cortez and Inter School Lantern Parade Competition Chairperson Boy Pacla.
