"Gusto natin na lalo pang mahubog yung kanilang mga kakayanan sa larangan ng sports. Ito rin ang magsisilbing daan para makapagrecruit kami ng mga pwedeng ipasok sa varsity," he added. Mayor Edwin "EdSa" Santiago, for his part, said that sports event is one way of uniting Fernandino youth that does not only develop physical abilities but also promotes discipline, honesty and camaraderie. He added "there's no such thing as gifted dahil kung hindi n'yo gusto ang ginagawa ninyo, hindi rin kayo mag-e-excel. After all, it's about passion—doing what you like and what you love." The city mayor also stressed his vision of making the city a preferred sports tourism destination as his administration targets to build a sports complex that will benefit all Fernandino athletes and aspirants.
