Grades 11 and 12 students from eight schools in the City of San Fernando will compete in sports activities as the local government, in coordination with the City Schools Division, launched the first ever Inter-Senior High School Games over the weekend.
Mayor Edwin "EdSa" Santiago, together with Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin and Councilors Harvey Quiwa and Nelson Lingat led the opening ceremony which started with a motorcade followed by a short program held at Colegio de Sebastian Gymnasium.
The participating schools are AMA Computer College, Central Luzon College of Science & Technology, Our Lady of Fatima University, Pampanga High School, Panipuan High School, St. Nicolas College of Business and Technology, Systems Plus Computer College and Infant Jesus Academy in partnership with Colegio de Sebastian.
City Sports Coordinator Ariel Mercado said that in a span of one month, the players will test their skills in basketball and volleyball which is divided into men and women division.
"Gusto natin na lalo pang mahubog yung kanilang mga kakayanan sa larangan ng sports. Ito rin ang magsisilbing daan para makapagrecruit kami ng mga pwedeng ipasok sa varsity," he added.
Mayor Edwin "EdSa" Santiago, for his part, said that sports event is one way of uniting Fernandino youth that does not only develop physical abilities but also promotes discipline, honesty and camaraderie.
He added "there's no such thing as gifted dahil kung hindi n'yo gusto ang ginagawa ninyo, hindi rin kayo mag-e-excel. After all, it's about passion—doing what you like and what you love."
The city mayor also stressed his vision of making the city a preferred sports tourism destination as his administration targets to build a sports complex that will benefit all Fernandino athletes and aspirants.
