President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday led a boodle fight in the City of San Fernando to prove that poultry products in Pampanga and Nueva Ecija are safe for public consumption.

He was joined by Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Pinol and Undersecretary Berna Puyat, Health Secretary Paulyn Rosell-Ubial, Governor Lilia Pineda, former president and Pampanga 2nd District Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, 3rd District Representative Aurelio "Dong" Gonzales, Mayor Edwin "EdSa" Santiago and other local officials from the two provinces. Some 1,000 individuals including government employees, uniformed personnel and poultry raisers also participated and shared different chicken-based meal like fried chicken and quail, chicken adobo, hard boiled eggs and balut. In an interview, Duterte said he wanted to personally try the local poultry products to prove that these are safe to eat amid the bird flu scare. "I came here just to eat the chicken and the egg and the balut(s) to assure the public na hindi po delikado, tapos na," Duterte said. During the program, P29 million worth of indemnity checks were also awarded to affected poultry operators in Pampanga and Nueva Ecija. Pinol reported that around of 600, 000 birds from San Luis, Pampanga and towns of San Isidro and Jaen in Nueva Ecija were depopulated. Meanwhile, military and police personnel who assisted to contain the Avian Influenza in the affected areas were also given certificates of commendation from the President and the DA. Mayor Edwin "EdSa" Santiago, for his part, extended his gratitude to the president and other concerned agencies for their support to the poultry industry and local poultry raisers whose livelihood has been devastated due to avian influenza outbreak. "We know that most poultry supplies come not only from Pampanga but also from other parts of Central Luzon; unfortunately, the crisis has greatly affected and even cut the demand of chicken and eggs. Kaya naman kami ay patuloy na nakikiisa at nagsasagawa ng ganitong mga aktibidad at umaasa kami na muli ng tatangkilikin ng publiko ang mga manok at itlog na galing dito sa atin, Santiago said."
