CSF Declares Two New “adopted Sons” [ Tuesday, 18th of February 2014 | 4 years ago ]


The City and County of Honolulu in Hawaii is now officially proclaimed as San Fernando, Pampanga’s newest “sister city.” Pampanga’s capital city also conferred upon Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell and Philippine Consul General Julius Torres the title “Distinguished Adopted Son” of the City on February 16, 2014 at the Heroes Hall.

“This will further strengthen our ties with the people of Hawaii most especially the Filipinos who live there,” Mayor Edwin Santiago said during the official visit of the 24th Trade Mission of the Filipino Chamber of Commerce in Hawaii (FCCH) scheduled in time for San Fernando’s 13th City Charter anniversary.

“Mayor Caldwell has shown sincere gesture of friendship, respect, cooperation and appreciation to us [San Fernando City Officials] during our cultural and trade mission in Honolulu last year,” City Vice-Mayor Jimmy Lazatin said.

Torres, Consul General of the Philippines to Hawaii, was recognized for his support to the Annual Parol Festival in Hawaii that features the “Parul Sampernandu” for two consecutive years.

The delegation from Honolulu enjoyed a welcome reception hosted by the City Government and the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PAMCHAM).

“I am humbled because Honolulu, considered as a first world city, wants to know the best practices that San Fernando is doing so that they can do it in their place”, Santiago added.

“The purpose of this year’s trip is to increase business activity by promoting Hawaii and the Philippines as investment and tourism destinations,” Maria A. F. Etrata, president of the FCCH said.

Marco Antonio Jimenez, PAMCHAM president, also attended the event in behalf of San Fernando’s business sector. City council members present were Angie Hizon, BJ Lagman, Tino Dizon, Harvey Quiwa, Jacklyn Calimlim, Noel Tulabut, Lito Ocampo and Nelson Lingat.

The half-day affair was capped with an exchange of tokens between the two sister cities. Kapampangan dishes were also served to all attendees after the formal program.

The two new awardees are now added to the list of honorary Fernandinos which includes Ambassador Linglingay Lacanlale (2009 Distinguished Adopted Son) and Professor Jean Cristophe Gaillard (2012 Outstanding Honorary Fernandino) –CSF-CIO
