Pyestang Fernandino Showcases Kapampangan Culture [ Wednesday, 17th of May 2017 | 2 months ago ]
The awarding was led by Mayor Edwin ‘EdSa' Santiago, City Agriculturist Cristina Sangumay, Councilor BJ Lagman, City Administrator Engr.Fernando Limbitco and Pyestang Fernandino 2017 Chairperson Boy Santiago.
Sangumay said the activity marks the beginning of Fernandino Farmer's Week celebration in line with this year's Pyestang Fernandino.
The winners are Joselito Gopez (Outstanding Rice Farmer), Orlando Salvador (Outstanding Fisherfolk), Reynaldo Tiglao (Outstanding Corn Farmer), Jesus Tulabut (Outstanding Livestock Farmer) and Marcelino Musni (Outstanding HDCVP Farmer).
Farmers with extraordinary products were also recognized. These are Joewer Serrano (Longest Upo), Eduardo Manalo (Biggest and Heaviest Papaya), Francisco Tancio (Biggest and Heaviest Kalabasa), Jayson Garcia (Biggest Mango and Longest Eggplant) and Orlando Salvador (Heaviest Tilapia).
In his speech, Mayor EdSa said farmers are the key players in attaining food security through their efforts and innovations in increasing agricultural productivity.
"Mahalaga po na bigyang pagkilala ang mga natatanging magsasaka dahil sila ang mga katuwang ng syudad upang masiguro na ang bawat Fernandino ay may masaganang pamumuhay," Santiago added.
Anchored on the theme "King pamagmasusi ning Kapiyestan, Kulturang Fernandino ing tangalan," the city mayor said the annual feast seeks to unite every Fernandino and showcase the city's rich culture, tradition and beliefs.
"Ito din ay panahon ng pasasamalat para sa ating muling pagbangon matapos ang mga kalamidad at trahedya. Tayo ngayon ay magdiwang bilang isang komunidad," Santiago said.
This 2017, the city will hold El Circulo Fernandino on May 13 and Fernandino Farmers' Week on May 15-20.
On the 20th, Fernandinos may enjoy triple activities including the National Heritage Month celebration, Flores De Mayo and Mr. Body Builder.
A trade fair and Pyestang Fernandino sale will also be held beginning May 21 until the 30th.
"Kinausap po namin yung mga business establishments na makiisa sa malawakang sale at meron po tayong ordinansa dito," Pyestang Fernandino Chairperson Boy Santiago said during a press conference.
Pageant enthusiasts may cheer for their favorite candidate during the coronation of Miss Gay Fernandina on May 25, Little Miss Fernandina on May 26, and Lakan at Mutya ning San Fernando on May 27.
Meanwhile, sports and recreational activities for this year include Farm Link expo on May 26-28, CSFP Frisbee Open on May 28, Inter Barangay Basketball and Volleyball Championship on May 29 and Variety Show and Music Festival on May 30.
The city will also commemorate National Flag Day on May 28 and Independence Day on June 12 which serves as the culminating activity of Pyestang Fernandino.
