CSF Inaugurates Rehabilitated Public Market [ Thursday, 6th of April 2017 | 7 months ago ]
In his speech, Santiago said the local government allotted 57M pesos for its improvement and rehabilitation which started sometime in July last year.
He furthered that the redeveloping and modernization of public markets, which are the heart and soul of a community, will further boost local economic growth.
"Sustainable public markets offer a wide range of benefits to the citizenry such as attaining food security and providing better marketing opportunities to our Fernandino entrepreneurs and farmers," Santiago added.
With an estimated 3,000 square-meter floor area, the newly constructed building has 98 fixed stalls and 516 tables divided into meat, fish and chicken section.
According to the City Engineer's Office, the operation of the public market shall begin next week.
Meanwhile, the naming of the formerly tagged ‘New Public Market' into ‘City Public Market' is in accordance with the city ordinance No. 2017-017 passed March 15.
Also present during the event were Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin, Councilor BJ Lagman, Councilor Noel Tulabut and City Hall department heads.
