CSF Holds Labor Education For Graduating Students [ Tuesday, 7th of March 2017 | 9 months ago ]

Some 400 Fernandino students who are beneficiaries of the local government's Educational Scholarship Assistance Program (ESAP) are now job ready following the conduct of Labor Education for Graduating Students (LEGS) over the weekend.

Mayor Edwin ‘EdSa' Santiago said the program, initiated by the Department of Labor and Employment, seeks to prepare graduating students of vocational and baccalaureate courses for the real world through life skills training and job referral to notable companies.

"Education has always been our top priority but our commitment does not end merely in providing these students with quality education, we also want to ensure that they will land a good job" Santiago added.

During the program, the city's Public Employment and Services Office and representatives from DOLE took part in giving tips during job hunting and job interviews and discussing the Basic Labor Standards which highlights the roles, responsibilities and rights of an employee.

Selected hiring companies including iQor, Amaia Lands and Optimized Customer Solutions Inc. also participated during the event.

For his part, PESO Manager Donny Sayre said this initiative helps decrease unemployment rate as well as minimize job mismatch in the city.

"We also encouraged the students to submit their resumes to the PESO but for those who wish to apply to the participating companies, they may already submit their resumes directly," he added.

Also present during the activity were Councilor Reden Halili, ESAP head Jason Caguiat and Supervising Labor and Employment Officer Aurita Laxamana.
