CSF Joins Fight Vs. Colon Cancer [ Monday, 24th of October 2016 | 12 months ago ]


The City Government of San Fernando, in partnership with the Philippine Society of Gastroenterelogy (PSG), on Wednesday conducted a forum that aims to promote awareness on the treatment of colon cancer.

Organized by the City Health Office, the activity was participated by city hall employees and senior high school students from the City College of San Fernando.

Medical doctors from the PSG, headed by Board of Director and Chair for Committee on Councils Dr. Allan Policarpio, discussed the signs and symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of colon cancer which is considered as â€~a common preventable, treatable and beatable type of disease.â€

Experts said that Colon Cancer is a cancer of large intestines that usually starts with a change in bowel movements such as repeated diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, body weakness and leads to rectal bleeding.

Meanwhile, participants also underwent free colon cancer screening test, to detect the presence of blood in the stool, as a preventive measure against the cancer.

In his speech, Mayor Edwin D. Santiago thanked PSG for holding the forum in the cityâ€"first in the entire province of Pampanga.

He stressed the importance of educating Fernandinos on the prevention of different common types of diseases in gearing towards a healthier community.

†This disease is still curable. Together, we can help save others lives by joining the fight against colon cancer,†Mayor EdSa added.

For his part, Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin urged the participants to act as frontliners by spreading the good news to the grassroots.
