CSF Advocates Voluntary Blood Donation [ Friday, 29th of July 2016 | 1 year ago ]

The Local Government of San Fernando through its City Health Office (CHO) advocates for voluntary blood donation to maintain adequate blood supply for the Fernandino community.

On July 28, the city government, in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), held a bloodletting activity participated by employees and uniformed personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection.

Rural Health Physician Dr. Renely Tungol said that the city targets bloodletting activities at least six times every year to prevent shortage of blood.

“This is already our second time for this year. We aim to collect around 70 blood bags per activity which will be turned over to the PRC,” she added.

Tungol furthered that “more volunteers are needed because the actual target per year is 1% of the city’s population which is equivalent to more or less 3,600 blood bags.”

For his part, Mayor Edwin ‘EdSa’ Santiago encourages every Fernandino to donate blood to replenish the supply and ensure the sufficiency of blood in case of emergencies.

“Let us save others’ lives by donating blood. It may be a small act but for those in need, it would be of great help,” Mayo EdSa ended.

In August, the CHO will visit the city’s 35 barangays to look for possible donors.
