CSF Local Officials Commemorate ‘Pinatubo Day’ [ Thursday, 16th of June 2016 | 1 year ago ]

Local officials in the City Government of San Fernando, led by Mayor Edwin ‘EdSa’ Santiago, on Wednesday commemorated the 25th anniversary of Mt. Pinatubo’s eruption.

Santiago, together with Vice-Mayor Jimmy Lazatin, re-elected councilor BJ Lagman and incoming councilor Ruping Dumlao, graced the commemorative event hosted by the Provincial Capitol of Pampanga.

According to the City Mayor, the activity does not only commemorate the devastation brought about by the 1991 catastrophe but also also celebrates Kapampangans’ triumph over any form of adversity.

Considered as the world’s second worst eruption in the 20th century, Mt. Pinatubo’s massive explosion covered the province of Pampanga with mudflows that resulted to the death of thousands.

“We are celebrating the resilliency of the Kapampangan race, and the Fernandino community will always strive hard in order to continue the progress of our once lahar-ravaged province,” Santiago added.

Twenty-five years after the tragedy, the province of Pampanga has recognized private sectors and government officials who contributed in the rebuilding and rehabilitating process in the province.

Through Kapampangans’ resiliency and indomitable spirit, Pampanga has risen from the ashes and is now tagged as a premiere province in Central Luzon.
