Harvest Festival Held, Mayor Santiago Pushes For Long-term Food Security [ Monday, 11th of April 2016 | 2 years ago ]

Mayor Edwin ‘EdSa’ Santiago joins residents and some farmers in reaping the fruit of their labor during the ‘Harvest Festival on Organic Vegetable Production ‘held February 26 in Brgy. Del Rosario, City of San Fernando.

The ‘Gulayan sa Baranggay’ project in Del Rosario was initiated by Brgy. Captain Reginaldo David in cooperation with the City Agriculture and Veterinary Office.

CAVO Officer-in-Charge Cristina Sangumay said residents started planting during the last quarter of 2015. CAVO, for their part, assisted farmers from identification of land; land preparation; planting up to the harvesting period.

“We also provide seedlings, fertilizer and tools. All interested may directly coordinate with us,” she added.

For his part, Mayor Santiago urges officials from other barangays to engage in organic farming, this after the success of the project in Brgy. Del Rosario which is the pilot area.

“Our City aims to promote long-term food security. We can certainly sustain our needs if we plant,” Santiago stressed.

Meanwhile, also present in the activity were 3rd District Representative Oscar Rodriguez and Committee on Cooperatives and Agriculture Councilor Nelson Lingat.
