CSF, Red Cross Ties Up For Bloodletting Activity [ Tuesday, 12th of April 2016 | 2 years ago ]

The local government, in cooperation with Philippine Red Cross, held its Voluntary Blood Donation Activity at the city hall.

Members of the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection and some government employees participated in the activity.

With the theme “Dugo ko, karugtong ng buhay mo”, the city aims to collect more than 50 blood bags to ensure the sufficiency of blood reserve in its respective Rural Health Unit.

In his speech, Mayor Edwin Santiago lauds all the blood donors for their volunteerism. “You are all considered heroes for serving as instruments in saving others’ lives,” he added.

Mayor Santiago also disclosed the city’s plan of coming up with an Executive Order to create a Blood Council before this month ends. This move will make it easier for the health experts to look for possible blood donors that will match the need of the patients in case of emergencies.

The city’s blood unit mostly caters patients infected with dengue, suffering in cancer, and even those who undergo surgical operations.

Dr. Renely Tungol, Rural Health Physician and Voluntary Blood Donation Coordinator said the activity aimed at promoting voluntary blood donation for it also has a good effect in the donor’s health.

“It’s good for our body to donate blood. It stimulates the body to produce blood cells,” she explained.

The bloodletting activity is lined up for Kaganapan 2016 in celebration of the 15th Cityhood Anniversary of San Fernando.
