CSF Named As Child Friendly LGU [ Monday, 11th of April 2016 | 11 months ago ]


The City Government of San Fernando, under the stewardship of Mayor Edwin D. Santiago, was named by the Department of Interior and Local Government and Department of Social Welfare and Development as a Child Friendly Local Government Unit for promoting programs aimed to uplift the living conditions of Fernandino youth.

Mayor Santiago received the recognition presented by the provincial government during the Flag raising ceremony held at the Capitol grounds.

With its commitment of implementing various child friendly programs, San Fernando is among the 17 cities and municipalities in the province who were recognized.

With Mayor Santiago’s administration, the city has always been very instrumental in the provision of welfare and development programs for the children particularly on education and health. Programs are laid down in adherence to the four basic rights of the children which are survival, protection, development and participation.

“This made San Fernando an environment for children to grow and develop their full potential in every stage of development, from conception in the womb to adolescence period” said Mayor Santiago in interview.

He added that the city believes that the prime indicator of a successful child – friendly local governance is its institutional transformation that is rooted to a significant change in values and practices of the community, in which the family, the church and the school institutions plays a vital role.

“Investing fully in children today will ensure the well – being and productivity of future generations for decades to come” said Mayor Santiago noting that the “programs are geared towards an enabling environment for children to grow and develop their full potential in every stage of development, from conception in the womb to adolescence period.”

The awarding is held annually to recognize the efforts of LGUs who actively gears towards a ‘friendly Philippines: A caring and protective society for, by and with the children.’
Also present in the awarding ceremony were local officials and representatives from other recipients including the cities of Angeles and Mabalacat; and the municipalities of Guagua, Porac, Lubao, Sta. Rita, Floridablanca, Sasmuan, Arayat, Sta. Ana, Bacolor, San Simon, Apalit, Macabebe, Minalin and Sto. Tomas.
