Use Disaster Funds Wisely – Mayor EdSa [ Thursday, 26th of September 2013 | 4 years ago ]

“As the city mayor and chairperson of CDRRMC, let us use the funds wisely to improve our rescue team units,” Mayor Santiago said during his opening remarks addressed to the participants of the Regional DRRM Summit sponsored by the Office of Civil Defense Region III.

“Our main objective is to lessen and prevent the possible risks which affect our society and environment,” Mayor Santiago added.

The Mayor of San Fernando also discussed how San Fernando was able to handle calamities and disasters caused by typhoons and heavy rains.

“We have a local version of 911 and that’s 961-HELP,” Mayor EdSa said as he promotes the City’s own rescue team and emergency medical services hotline.

In recognition of the City’s disaster response and mitigation efforts, the San Fernando Rescue Unit (SAFRU) placed 2nd in the “Best in Government Emergency Response Management (GEM) Basic Search and Rescue” Award for 2013. The City was also awarded second in City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (Independent and Component City Category).

Aside from provincial, city and municipal officials from Zambales, Tarlac, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Bataan and Aurora, punong barangays, members of the sanggunian, local disaster risk reduction and management councils, local development councils, local finance committees, and all other national and local government officials from Central Luzon attended the event. ---CSFP-CIO

During the two-day Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) seminar for newly-elected local chief executives held last September 23-24 at the Heroes Hall, San Fernando Mayor Edwin D. Santiago urged his fellow public officials to maximize the use of their calamity fund.
