City Observes Nutrition Month [ Monday, 6th of July 2015 | 2 years ago ]


Mayor Edwin D. Santiago led the unveiling of the calendar of activities for the city’s observance of nutrition month this July during the Monday flag raising program held at City Hall.

Themed “Timbang Iwasto sa Tamang Nutrisyon at Ehersisyo”, the LGU will be intensifying public awareness on the role and importance of proper nutrition and physical activity in preventing overweight and obesity among the general public.

“Overweight and obese people are at risk for developing certain conditions including high blood pressure which can lead to death” said City Health Officer Dr. Eloisa Aquino.

For his part, Mayor Santiago noted that Fernandino’s health and nutrition is among his priority program under his twelve point agenda dubbed “Epektibong programang pangkalusugan, produktibong mamamayan”.

With this, activities which highlight the importance of active lifestyle will be launched throughout this month.

These include Inter-Barangay Zumbaers Biggest Loser which will culminate on July 24; Ay Bigat! Timbang ay Dapat lamang sapat from July 6 to December 2015, a weight challenge program for overweight city hall employees; series of interactive lectures on nutrition program for organized women, July 7-25; a seminar on Nutri-Talk (Disease Cure thru Nutrition), July 14 and 21; Forum on Overweight and Obesity, July 16, 17, and 20; Little Doctors and Nurses Training, July 17 October 30; Little Doctors and Nurses Summit, July 21, 2015; a talk on consumers awareness on organic agriculture, July 22; save mommy and baby advocacy seminar, July 23; Fernandino Master Gulay (kalabasa-Malunggay Cooking Challenge), July 24; Youth Summit, July 28; Best Hataw Zumba Fest and Nutri Jingle Competition, July 29; wall mural competition, launching of pinggang fernandino and search for 10 kumainments ambassador.

The city will also participate in a global simultaneous breast feeding event dubbed as “San Fernando Latch on!” from July 31 to August 1.
