CSF Opens First Organic Trading Post [ Monday, 22nd of June 2015 | 2 years ago ]

The City Government of San Fernando through its City Agriculture and Veterinary Office (CAVO) inaugurated Pampanga’s first Organic Trading Post (OTP) at the New Public Market last June 19.

Leading the formal opening were City Mayor Edwin D. Santiago, Vice Mayor Jimmy T. Lazatin, Councilor Nelson Lingat, Councilor Benedict Jasper Lagman, City Agriculture and Veterinary Officer Myrna Manabat and Acting Provincial Agriculturist Edilberto Salenga.

As an initiative of the Provincial Agriculture Office in partnership with the city government, the OTP was established to promote and broaden the implementation of organic agriculture in the country, with funds from the Department of Agriculture Marketing Assistance Division under Dr. Andrew Villacorta and William Valdez.

According to CAVO Officer Myrna Manabat, the facility is expected to cater not only to the city’s needs but also those of nearby municipalities.

“Yung mga farmers natin, pwede sila bumili ng mga organikong produkto rito. Pwede rin naman na dalhin dito at ibenta ang kanilang mga produkto. Mas mainam ito para sa kanila,” said Manabat.

For his part, Mayor EdSa pointed out his agenda on Agriculture saying that they plan to extend the city’s agricultural programs.

“Diyan tayo nagsimulang mabuhay. Kailangan panatilihin natin ito at suportahan ang ating mga mamamayang magsasaka. Tangkilikin natin ang mga organikong produkto dahil ito ay mas ligtas, at makakatulong pa tayo sa pangkabuhayan ng mga Fernandinong magsasaka.”

Prior to this, the CAVO has been encouraging everyone to use organic supplies and materials instead of chemically-based products for everyday usage or consumption.
