Mayor EdSa To CDRRMC: 'be Proactive' [ Monday, 12th of August 2013 | 4 years ago ]

“During times like these, we should be proactive. I also call for an urgent meeting with barangays so that we can synchronize our actions not only now but also during disaster situations,” Mayor Santiago said.

City Administrator Engr. Fernando Limbitco said that the group was convened to emphasize the role of the members of the working committee constituting the City’s incident command system.

Although the public storm signal has been lowered in Pampanga, the City is continuously monitoring the major channels of the San Fernando River and other areas covered by closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.

“Almost two meters of the San Fernando River has been desilted and tractors are working on the Del Pilar, San Felipe and San Jose areas,” Engr. Amor Bien Aguas, OIC of the City Engineer’s Office said.

Aside from the flood-mitigation efforts, the CDRRMC also discussed the evacuation plan wherein 16 schools have been identified as possible evacuation sites. The Heroes Hall will serve as the main staging area in case of emergency.

Councilor Angie Hizon, chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s committee on peace, order and public safety, noted the need for additional rescue equipment. “We should also provide portalets and mosquito nets to evacuees,” Hizon added.

Also present during the meeting are Vice Mayor Jaime Lazatin, CDRRMO chief Raymond del Rosario and key department heads of the City Government.

Mayor Santiago earlier announced the suspension of classes for pre-school, elementary and high school levels, both public and private, in accordance with government guidelines. The CDRRMC is on heightened alert status and assures real-time response to Fernandinos in case of emergency through the San Fernando Rescue Unit (SAFRU). ---CSF-CIO
