Drug Summit Beefs Up CSF Defense [ Thursday, 24th of July 2014 | 3 years ago ]

Representatives of barangays of this city gathered on July 22 at the Heroes Hall for an anti-drug summit meant to increase barangay capacity to combat the drug menace at the grassroots.

The meet, initiated by the Pampanga provincial government in coordination with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the City Government of San Fernando, was attended by officials of Barangays Dolores, San Jose, San Pedro, Sta. Lucia, San Nicolas and Sto. Nino.

In her remarks, Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda said the summit is part of the drug-clearing operations in the province. She urged the barangay officials to be fearless in protecting their respective areas against illegal drugs.

The governor then committed to provide the barangays with mobile patrol vehicles and motorcycles with sidecars for their mobility and surveillance needs.

As host of the event, Mayor Edwin D. Santiago thanked Governor Pineda for her efforts to help make San Fernando a drug-free city that, he said, is working towards becoming the preferred family-oriented tourist destination north of Manila.

Also present at the summit were Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin, Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) president City Councilor Angel Wijangco, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Dir. Gen. Arturo Cacdac Jr., DILG Provincial Director Myrvi Fabia, PDEA Regional Director Jeoffrey Tacio and Center for Health Development (CHD) Regional Director Leonita Gorgolon.

A luncheon meeting followed the summit during which the new Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. was welcomed by the officials present that included City Councilors BJ Lagman and Lito Ocampo, Board Member Rosve Henson and Pampanga Police Director Senior Supt. Marlon Madrid.
