35 Barangays Of CSF, Ready For Natural Hazards [ Friday, 11th of July 2014 | 3 years ago ]

Three hundred fifty bantay-bayan and volunteers from the 35 barangays of the City of San Fernando finished the Barangay Rescue Training course with a graduation program held July 10 at the Heroes Hall Mini Convention Center.

Mayor Edwin D. Santiago officiated the awarding of certificates of completion to the graduates who underwent training on basic first aid, basic life support and basic fire-fighting.

The city mayor encouraged the graduates to seize the opportunity for these kinds of training. “I believe our 35 barangays are now really ready to help our fellow Fernandinos during natural hazards. To the graduates, congratulations, and may this serve as one way of bringing disaster preparedness to the barangay-level,” Mayor EdSa added during his congratulatory message.

On the other hand, Councilor Angie Hizon, peace and order committee chairman in the City Council, stressed that the graduates can help assure Fernandinos of their security in the city.

“You, our barangay council and volunteers, are fortunate to acquire these kinds of trainings because our mayor sees to it that the programs are on the grass-root level, straight to the barangays,” she said.

In behalf of the City Government of San Fernando, Mayor EdSa and the city councilors distributed go-bags (emergency kits) and portable two-way radios to the barangay representatives for use during emergencies.

Present at the graduation were Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin, City Councilors Noel Tulabut, Nelson Lingat, Jacklyn Calimlim, ABC President Angel Wijangco, Assistant Regional Director Nigel Lontoc of Office of Civil Defense Region 3, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Antonio Dungo, and other city officials.

Said training’s culmination is part of the observance of National Disaster Consciousness Month in July, as led by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and the CDRRM Council.
