CSF Celebrates Disaster Consciousness Month [ Tuesday, 1st of July 2014 | 3 years ago ]

With July as National Disaster Consciousness Month, San Fernando Mayor Edwin D. Santiago today highlighted the month-long celebration by unveiling the city government's program of activities during the Monday flag ceremony at the City Hall.

This year, the theme "Kahandaan at Kaligtasan ng Pamayanan, Pundasyon ng Kaunlaran" will guide the conduct of the activities aimed to promote public awareness on natural hazards and disseminate information on the steps to be undertaken to mitigate the adverse effects of such hazards.

A thanksgiving Mass at the Heroes Hall followed by a motorcade around the city proper will serve to drum up public awareness and support to the importance of disaster risk reduction and sustainable development for the Fernandino. Expected to attend are representatives of national agencies and various organizations from the private and public sectors, among others.

A seminar on how to use practical tools to determine the vulnerability of residential structures will be conducted by San Fernando’s Risk Reduction and Management Office on July 2.

A poster-making competition which will highlight the creativity of young Fernandinos is scheduled on July 8.

On July 10, several volunteers from the city’s 35 barangays are expected to finish their rescue training.

Also, the city was invited to participate in the 11th Central Luzon First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated external Defribillator Olympics in Bulacan.

On July 27, a fun-run with distance categories of 3, 5, and 10 kilometers will start at the Heroes Hall, simultaneous with an open house exhibit of the San Fernando’s Heritage District.

Scheduled to cap the celebration on July 30 is a Kapihan ng Mamamayan in partnership with the Philippine Information Agency.
