CSF Eyes Ex-Senator’s Farm As ‘organic Farming Benchmark’ [ Wednesday, 26th of February 2014 | 3 years ago ]

As City of San Fernando advocates for a greener and healthier city, Mayor Edwin D. Santiago and selected city officials visited the organic farm of former senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan in Alfonso, Cavite on February 25.

Sweet Spring Country Farm owned and maintained by the former senator highlights a variety of herbs, vegetables and other organically grown food.

“I am encouraging my fellow Fernandinos to get out of their comfort zone when it comes to selecting the food they eat. I couldn’t agree more that health makes wealth,” said Mayor EdSa during the whole-day benchmarking activity.

A graduate of the University of the Philippines who earned a master’s degree from Harvard University, former Senator Pangilinan revealed his secret to a flourishing farm and a healthy lifestyle.

“I visit my farm three times a week because I believe that the best fertilizers are the footprints of the owner,” Pangilinan said.

Once we have empowered and strengthened farmers, we will see modern agriculture,” Pangilinan added.

Mayor Santiago and Senator Pangilinan exchanged conversations on the city’s n Organic Trading Post which will promote the selling organically-grown products.

“Food security is part of my governance agenda to ensure that every Fernandino household will never go hungry,” Mayor Santiago shared.

City Hall heads of offices from the agriculture, veterinary, health and environment departments also joined the City Mayor to learn from the best practices of the former Senator. --- CSF-CIO
