SAFRU Ready For Floods [ Thursday, 20th of February 2014 | 4 years ago ]

As part of its capacity-building activities, the San Fernando Rescue Unit (SAFRU) participated in a Transom Rescue Boat Handling at Poblacion, Sto. Tomas sponsored by Disaster Emergency Search and Rescue (DESAR).

City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CDRRM) Officer Raymond Del Rosario joined his staff members during the whole-day exercise.

“As much as we don’t want to recall the destructible typhoons that hit our city, our 24/7 rescue team will not wait until something happens before we act. That is why we are conditioning ourselves for any emergencies needed by the city,” Del Rosario explained.

14 SAFRU staff members were trained by Olongapo CDRRM Operations and Warning Section Chief Jeffrey Lapid and Pasig Red Training Center Rene Samar.

Jeffrey Lapid taught the participants on how to manipulate the inflatable rubber boat. Aside from basic paddling, the city’s delegation was also introduced to handling the fiber glass boat with outboard motor (OBM).

“As a trainor, I want to contribute on their months of preparations when it comes to whatever would happen in times of emergency,” said Jeffrey Lapid.

The second batch of trainees also included selected personnel from different departments of the City Government of San Fernando. The program is in line with Mayor Edwin D. Santiago’s governance agenda focused on ensuring peace and order. ---CSF-CIO
