Spearheaded by the Gender and Development (GAD) division of the city government, the early morning activity aims to rejuvenate women’s participation through the fitness program which is very popular among their sector.
Mayor Edwin Santiago lauded the activity by saying that his administration intends to empower the society through various activities that will unite them.
“Zumba is one avenue to bond them together as an important sector of the society which later will become a tool for the smooth implementation of the city government’s agenda,” Mayor Santiago said.
Through Mayor Santiago’s governance agenda, the city promotes holistic health that includes physical, emotional, spiritual, psychological, social, and environmental areas to empower people through awareness; and to create good changes in people's health and life as a whole.
GAD focal person Ms. Amy Catacutan said that the activity is one of the many activities for women lined-up for their welfare.
Hundreds of women from different barangays and local agencies within the city joined the activity.
Zumba is a dance fitness program popularized by Colombian dancer and choreographer Alberto Perez during the 90’s. It involves dance and aerobic elements that incorporates hip-hop, samba, mambo, salsa and martial arts. ---CSF-CIO
