Mayor EdSa Joins Teacher’s Day In Subic [ Monday, 10th of February 2014 | 3 years ago ]

Mayor Edwin D. Santiago graced the Department of Education Region III Division of San Fernando 2014 Teacher’s Day of private and public school teachers of City of San Fernando in Ocean Adventure, Subic Bay on January 30.

Together with Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin and Kaganapan 2014 Chairperson Ceferino Pamintuan, Mayor EdSa led the awarding of the Certificate of Appreciation given to the most outstanding teachers, teacher retirees and teacher heroes.

“I want to express my genuine appreciation to the teachers of today. Dedication and courage that mold the youth are your prized possession,” said Mayor EdSa. “Araw ninyo ito.”

The whole day celebration also paved the way for the Fernandino teachers who were held hostage during the local elections at the San Fernando Municipal Hall on January 30, 1980.

“I was one of the teachers who were told to change the people’s vote in favor of the dictator 34 years ago. And now I’m standing in front of you to proudly say that I fought the good fight,” said Teresita Tablante, an awarded teacher hero. “As a Fernandino, I’m deeply encouraging the teachers of today to stick to your roots and remain upright to the electoral votes,” she added.

Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Esperanza Laya meanwhile spoke, in behalf of the teachers, in thankfulness to Mayor EdSa, Vice Mayor Lazatin and the rest of the city officials for celebrating the event with them. “Today’s event will not be as important as it is now if not for your presence. To the teachers, let us all stay united and a Happy Teacher’s Day,” Dr. Laya expressed.

2,300 private and public school teachers converged and fully enjoyed the activities in the resort with raffles, music band and their favorite part, luncheon treat.
