MEDSA Urges Fernandinos To Display Philippine Flags [ Tuesday, 31st of May 2016 | 1 year ago ]
Santiago underscored that this is in accordance with Executive Order No. 179, issued by former President Fidel V. Ramos, stretching National Flag Day from May 28 to June 12.
The Philippine Flag was first unfurled on May 28, 1898 but was formally presented on June 12, 1898 which marks Independence Day.
Meanwhile, local officials led the ceremonial distribution of Philippine flags to Brgy. Captains, school officials and members of the masonic lodges during the said activity. All participants were given flaglets as well.
A salute to the flag was also delivered by Bro. Harold Santiago, Public Relations Officer of the Samahan ng mga Mason.
In his speech, Mayor EdSa said the activity seeks to salute the national symbol of the Philippines and, at the same time, give respect to the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives in exchange of the country’s freedom.
“Gamitin nating inspirasyon ang sakripisyo ng ating mga bayani upang patuloy na maiangat ang antas ng pamumuhay ng mga Pilipino,” he added.
Also present during the activity were Vice-Mayor Jimmy Lazatin, Councilor BJ Lagman, ‘Pyestang Fernandino’ 2016 executive committee, city hall employees and Special Education for the Employment of Students (SPES) beneficiaries.
