CSF Observes Earth Day, Waterways Cleanup Held [ Thursday, 12th of May 2016 | 11 months ago ]

In line with the observance of Earth Day, the Local Government of San Fernando conducted on Friday a Citywide Waterways Cleanup aimed at clearing rivers, creeks and canals surrounding the city.

Through the initiative of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, city hall employees together with PNP and BFP personnel were also enjoined to participate. CENRO has provided cleaning materials and areas of assignment to every department.

City Environment and Natural Resources Officer Engr. Anele David said the activity is an annual event, originally conducted every September, to maintain the cleanliness of waterways in order to prevent flooding during rainy season.

“We decided to hold the cleanup drive earlier so we can de-clog and desilt the waterways in preparation for the rainy season,” David added.

David also furthered that all 35 barangays participated in the activity by clearing the waterways within their respective areas.

For his part, Mayor Edwin ‘EdSa’ Santiago encouraged every Fernandino to be ‘environment warriors’ by means of supporting the city’s campaign in promoting clean and garbage-free waterways.

“Ang pagmamalasakit sa kalikasan ay isang kabayanihan. Ibalik natin ang dating linis at sigla ng mga kailugan.” Santiago said.

Mayor EdSa underscored that the city can only maintain its healthy, livable environment if continuous unified effort is achieved.

Recently, San Fernando was recognized as ‘2016 Tanging Bayani ng Kalikasan’ by the People Management Association of the Philippines Human Resources Management Foundation Incorporated.
