Fernandinos Commemorate 74th Death March Anniversary [ Thursday, 14th of April 2016 | 1 year ago ]
A wreath laying ceremony, led by Mayor Edwin ‘EdSa’ Santiago, took place at the Death March marker as a tribute to World War II heroes who gallantly fought for the freedom of the country.
During his speech, Santiago applauded members of the Veterans Federation of the Philippines who were present in the activity for their significant contribution in the history.
“Mahalaga na kilalanin at pahalagahan natin sila para hindi natin makalimutan ang kasaysayan, lalo na ng mga kabataan,” Santiago said.
He also underscored the importance of ‘united effort for patriotism and nationalism’ for which the youth of today’s generation play a significant role. “Pagkakaisa at pagmamahal sa ating bansa ang kailangan,” Santiago added.
Meanwhile, winners of the ‘Oldest World War II Memorabilia Contest’ were also announced during the activity.
Norman Tuazon bagged the 1st place for his ‘Infantry Drill’ collection while Mercy Tuazon and Jude Pangilinan were awarded 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.
All entries are displayed inside the train station. The exhibit is open daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Also present during the commemoration were members of the Masonic District RIII-A, Pampanga Masonic Lodge #48, United Architects of the Philippines-Sinukwan Chapter, Far East Chapter Order of Demolay, Ms. Earth-Philippines candidate Korina Christiene Reyes, private sectors, department heads, and beneficiaries of the Special Program for Employment of Students.
