Fernandinos’ Pets Show Off Talents [ Monday, 11th of April 2016 | 12 months ago ]

More than 40 pet owners gathered to showcase their pet’s talents and skills in this year’s “Pet Mo, Show Mo!” which was organized by the City Agriculture and Veterinary Office (CAVO).

Mayor Edwin Santiago, Kaganapan 2016 Chair Alex Magsino and Vice-Chair Robby Hizon graced the event held at the Heroes Hall this morning.

On its 5th year now, the activity garnered a total of 47 entries which includes 43 dogs of different breed, 2 fowl and 1 cat.

Pet owners had the opportunity to dress and display their pets as the competition was also divided into four major categories namely: Glamour and Style; Tough and Glory; Cool and Dandy; and Intergalactic category which showcased different domesticated animals other than dogs and cats.

CAVO Officer-in-charge, Christina Sangumay explained that the event aims to promote responsible pet ownership. She also stressed the importance of complete vaccination to ensure the safety of the pets and their owners as well.

“The city offers free anti-rabies vaccination which is given every 3 months and we also conduct deworming on a quarterly basis,” Sangumay added.

For his part, Mayor Edwin Santiago, who is also a pet enthusiast, furthered that ‘pets should be treated like human beings and must be considered as companions’.

Santiago also cited that under the city’s 2008 Code of General Ordinances, no person shall let go astray of animal/s in any public or private place in this city. Therefore, animals shall be properly impounded.

Meanwhile, winners of each category were given P3, 000 worth of cash prizes and freebies from pet service businesses in the city were also given away.
