CSF Breaks Ground For Rehabilitation Of New Public Market [ Monday, 11th of April 2016 | 1 year ago ]
Led by Mayor Edwin ‘EdSa’ Santiago, the local government held a groundbreaking ceremony this morning in front of Camarin C building. Joining him were Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin, Councilors Nelson Lingat, BJ Lagman, Tino Dizon and staff from the City Engineer’s Office.
City Engineer Efren De Leon said that the demolition of the existing (Camarin C) structure shall begin on March 2.
“After the demolition, the construction of the new building will immediately take place. We have provided relocation tents located within the market area for some 600 affected vendors,” he added.
As per the project’s profile, the new building will be a meter elevated compared to the previous. With a total of 3,500 square-meter floor area, the building shall have 94 fix stalls while more than 500 tables will also be allotted for small-time vendors.
For his part, Mayor Santiago stressed that the rehabilitation scheme is well-planned by various sectors and it aims to address the numerous structural damages in the market.
“We want to modernize our public markets for these symbolize the advancement of our local economy. The markets and the town proper (Poblacion) are the heart of the economy,” he explained.
The City has loaned a total of 57 million pesos from Landbank Lending Center for the implementation of the said project which is targeted to be completed on August 29, 2016.
