CSF Observes National Disaster Consciousness Month [ Monday, 29th of June 2015 | 2 years ago ]

July ushers in Disaster Consciousness Month and the City Government of San Fernando is joining the whole country in its observance with a program of activities coordinated by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office under Raymond Del Rosario.

This year’s theme is “Pamilya at Pamahalaang Handa, Katuwang sa Pag-unlad ng Bansa.”

Launched Monday by Mayor Edwin D. Santiago, Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin, members of the Sanggunian and department heads, the activities include a motorcade, exhibit, poster-making contest, First Aid and CPR/AED Olympics, SAFRun, earthquake and fire drill and a Seminar on Building Resiliency in Vulnerable Urban Condition. To cap the series is the 1st CSF Barangay Rescue Olympics on July 31.

“The essence of the month-long celebration is to promote public awareness on natural hazards, and disseminate information on the steps to be undertaken to mitigate the effects of such hazards,” Del Rosario said.

He added that it is the time for the people to focus their attention on the need to prepare for natural disasters.

For his part, Mayor Santiago stressed the importance of always being prepared for times of disaster.

“Ang ating CDRRMO ay inuumpisahan na ang kanilang preparasyon para sa mga paparating na kalamidad sa ating siyudad. Year-round ang preparasyon natin dahil nais natin na aware tayo sa paligid natin,” he said.

July is declared as the National Disaster Consciousness Month by virtue of Executive Order No. 137 on August 10, 1999, to focus on raising public awareness of, and establishing safe and resilient communities against disasters.
