San Fernando Launches TOFA [ Tuesday, 2nd of June 2015 | 2 years ago ]
The unveiling was led by City Mayor Edwin D. Santiago, Councilor Angie Hizon, Co-Chairperson of TOFA, Councilor Harvey Quiwa, Councilor Noel Tulabut, Councilor Lito Ocampo, Councilor Nelson Lingat, TOFA Chairperson Mr. Franco De Jesus, Mr. Michael Quilala, Dra. Leticia Yap, Ms. Melanie Briones,Mr. Alfrito Mah and City Administrator Engr. Fernando Limbitco.
According to TOFA Chairperson Franco De Jesus, during the press conference, he stated that The Outstanding Fernandino Award grants the most prestigious award by the city government.
He also added this award has three objectives and these are to give honor and recognition to outstanding Fernandinos who have excelled in their fields of endeavor and professions and contributed to the welfare of the Fernandinos, to preserve the Fernandino culture and tradition by way of honoring those who have shared their talents and efforts to the success and glory of the Fernandinos and lastly, to provide an inspiration to the young Fernandinos by paying tribute to those who have completed greatly to the welfare of the city and its people.
There are twenty categories available and these are in the field of Religious Service, Environment Care and Preservation, Education, Law, Agriculture, Science and Technology, Social Service, Military Law and Enforcement, Medicine (including Health Services/Allied Medical Profession,) Business, Culture and Arts (including Heritage and History,) Community Service, Parenthood and Family, Senior Citizens Service, Sports, Media, Youth Service, Government Service, Entrepreneurship, Person with Disability.
De Jesus pointed out that there are certain criteria to be followed when nominating a Fernandino for the award.
“Here are some of the minimum requirements needed in order to be accepted as one of the nominees, they should be born in San Fernando or at least one of the nominee’s parents is a Fernandino or they should be a resident of San Fernando for the past 15 years,” said De Jesus.
“They must be of good moral character and has exceptional personal conduct or exemplary accomplishment, outstanding achievement in his/her chosen field that has contributed to the enhancement of the reputation of the Fernandinos.”
“Must have a documented proof of the nominee’s outstanding works or accomplishments and lastly, they must be nominated by a resident, group of individuals or recognized organization in the city,” added De Jesus.
For his part, Mayor EdSa pointed out that this is a way to recognize Fernandinos and it’s a way of communicating with the community.
“Ang pamamaraan ng pakikipagcommunicate sa ating mga Fernandino ay yung nirerecognize natin yung mga efforts na ginagawa nila para sa kaunlaran ng siyudad, humahanap tayo ng role model sa ating community, para sila ang maging ehemplo,” said Mayor EdSa.
He explained that starting from 2016; the TOFA will be done every three years to give ample time for the nomination and selection.
The awarding will be on February 04, 2016 and will be considered as one of the highlights of the cityhood anniversary of San Fernando next year.
