CSF Celebrates National Flag Day [ Friday, 29th of May 2015 | 2 years ago ]
A commemorative program hosted by the City Tourism and Investment and Promotions Office and the Pyestang Fernandino 2015 executive committee coincided flag raising rites at the Heroes Hall with performances from the city choir and a recital of the salute to the flag.
This will signal the city’s 15-day countdown to the 117th Philippine Independence Day on June 12.
In his speech, Mayor Santiago enjoined all Fernandinos to display the Philippine Flag in all offices, agencies, and instruments of government, business establishments, schools, and private homes to commemorate the date the national emblem was first unfurled after the Philippine Revolutionary Army overcame the Spanish conquerors in the Battle of Alapan in Cavite in 1898.
“Our flag symbolizes our unison as Filipinos and as Fernandinos” said Mayor Santiago noting that “the era we live in doesn’t require us to go into war against colonizers, we still have our own battle and that is to fight corruption and poverty.”
He added that “displaying the flag is a way of accepting the challenge for a better future posted by our forefathers and fallen heroes.”
“Tayo ang tulay ng mga kabataan upang sila ay makatawid sa isang mas magandang kinabukasan.”
The mayor has also given instruction to install Philippine flags in city government buildings and major thoroughfares.
